He lives in California, USA, so a phone call would cost more than the engine is worth. Send him your photos so he can identify it right off. OK?
Watash, By working on the Bachmann 4-8-4's, does he just do work, or also sell parts? Maybe some decent side and drawbars, nuts instead of the pop rivets? Thanks, Mark..who wants to makes his NYC 4-8-4 into a MILW 4-8-4
You should email him and ask. He is not in the business of repairing engines for the public, but has helped tutor many things about 4-8-4 engines which are his favorite. He was kind enough to help me with a new round axle Bachman I had, and it is running better than new now. He may have some spare parts he will sell or trade, though. Its worth a try. He is a nice guy if you are honest. Wolfy has posted several articles about how to install DCC in Bachman 4-8-4's.
Snapper, I do not have a 4-8-4 but looking at the diagram, are there locks on the floor of the tender? I have circled them in red.
