I have operating manuals for Santa Fe F7's through GP60's, Amtrak F40PH, EMD SD45 manuals, EMD E8 manuals, several rule books from the Santa Fe, CSXT, NS, GTW and CN.
My dad was buddy's with a guy that ran the locals around our area and one day he told my dad as he was passing thru town to go down to Tacoma and meet him there. My dad met him there and when his engineer buddy hopped of the engine, he had a big box full of just about everything you can imagine!! There is anything from a SD60 operating manual to codes and operations!
Ya, it's endless, the stuff in that box!! He's had it a couple years now and I still haven't gone thru the whole thing!
Another Hun fan here! Cool looking plane, just like any other of the "Century Series", including my favorite, the F-105 Thunderchief, aka "Thud". I bet that F-100 was fun as hell to fly! I'm a "Hun" fan from way back. I just like the way they look! </font>[/QUOTE]
I got a bunch of manuals and ETTs, mostly from RR employee friends, and a couple from swap meets. I've got a 1995 (or was it 96?) ATSF Western Region ETT (one of the last ones issued before BNSF), several SP Western Division ETTs from the 80s/early 90s, a 1996 UP LA Division ETT, and probably my favorite, an SP Operating Manual. That sucker is huge; it's a heavy black vinyl binder with velcro flap to keep it closed, and inside are regional timetables, operating rules, track profile charts, and just about anything else you can think of. It's the most cherished part of my little collection, given to me by a retired SP brakeman that was a member of my model RR club for a short time before he passed away. He gave me that, his old lantern, a few other SP timetables, and some great stories of his experiences working for SP (including one of his first assignments after hiring out - hauling retired cab-forwards to scrap). I've also picked up locomotive operating manuals from eBay, mainly for contemporary EMDs (SD40-2s and GP38-2s).
I have an SP operating manual, as well, and agree, that thing IS huge! But, my fave manual is one of the thinnest, my GE Gas-Turbine operating manual! Around 50 pages of info, diagrams and stuff. [ December 14, 2005, 07:24 PM: Message edited by: C40-9W ]
I've got a current (2004) GCOR and operations manual for BNSF. Also have multiple division maps for the are I dispatched while I worked there (Pacific Division) and some for here in Texas.
Although I have aquired a few operating manuals for diesel locomotives, by far the best book I have is a 1947 Southern Pacific Company book titled "Rules and Information for the Firing and Handling of Locomotives". It has 93 pages devoted to oil and coal burning steam locomotives, and 16 pages to early diesels. Tom
