We were down in the L.A. / Long Beach CA harbor today, and I was surprised at how much has changed. Probably not news to some people, but... Found out that Pier A yard is gone, with a whole new truck flyover being built there, and also a new intermodal rail loading facility. Then a brand new admin building and shops for PHL over by Badger Bridge. They also seem to be replacing the auto lift bridge to the island, with just a concrete overpass. On Terminal Island, the big scrap dealer is now apparently taking regular iron ore unit trains, for loading onto ships to Asian markets... the ore coming from CA, UT and NV. All kinds of new stuff. Virtually all of the old coal loading facility on the island seems to have been removed. Also spotted UPY #2005 in the UP yard at the refineries. Unfortunately, no pics, because the haze was terrible.
