Can someone recommend a good paint stripper for Kato locomotives? Previous experience and talking to other people suggests that ELO isn't a good idea. What have others experienced? Can anyone offer a tried and proven stripper that wont damage the Kato plastic?

I've used Chameleon brand stripper by Custom Hobbyist, Inc. to strip SD40 shells (looks like I'm gonna have to do it again on this upcoming run!). Also, Pine-Sol cleanser - the real stuff, no imitators - will remove the paint from Kato shells. In fact, I remember seeing it recommended on the Kato website.

Hi Doug - fancy meeting you here [IMG]

Forget ELO unless you plan to be REALLY careful with it. Chameleon is not available here as far as I know, and it's sometimes in short supply Stateside. Ask Ian (RailNthusiast) if he has ever brought it in.
As for Pine-sol, I don't know of a local equivalent. Actually, what is it really?

The only way I know of that is totally safe with Kato is using a fine bead blaster. There is a booth made in the US specifically for the model market using a device similar to an airbrush and AlO2 beads. Maybe someone there in Melbourne has one or similar?
