Is there anyone who is operating a passenger train in their layout.

By operating, I mean more than having it pass by every so often.

I'm thinking of having an "end of the line station" where the train would come in, be turned around, etc.

    Thanks,

    nbrail

We operate 4 to 5 passenger trains in a single session, as they are equally as important to railroad revenue as moving freight. We operate the trains on the same card system as freights...particualr assignments, stops and number of cars listed on randomly drawn cards. Since my layout is small, occassionally there is a card marked "through twice" which indicates that the train must make a complete circuit of the line before beginning its schedualed stops. All runs end at the La Plata Yard. Once passengers have detrained, the locomotive uncouples and heads for the roundhouse for reassignment and fueling. The cars are left on the mainline, and a switcher shunts them to a storage yard. This can be a bit tricky when on a schedule...especially if you are forced to hold another train while switching is completed. But then, being on time has never been a worry of the CSW management!! In terms of turning an entire train, we don't have room for it yet, but I plan an extension with a large Y that will allow an entire train to be turned at the end of the line, similar to the protoype found in Silverton, Colorado.
    Happy Modeling!!

Here at the Eastern BC Rail Link, we pride our selves with quality passenger service with connections to Via Rail Canada's Train #1, and Train #2 the Canadian/Canadien. Our main train operates what is basically the main line, and goes twice aday. There tends to be about 4-7 coaches, a Cafe Lounge, 1-3 parlour and a dome car. The train runs twice per day. Then, on the last run of that train (#11), when it arrives the #13, the Mervins departes on the same route, but goes even farther north. It is a sleeper train based on the Enterprise. It has 1-3 coaches, 1-2 sleeps (2 sleepers=hole fleet), and a parlour dining class. The last service we offer basically takes a spin around the branch, and hasn't heard of a schedule. Cars are cleaned at night while the #13, and #14 is out. It terms of what we roster, we have some ex. CPR and Via streamlined coaches, a dome, and then the rest is smooth side for the exeption of our Kato steamlined parlour (buisness) cars. Motive power is SD60s, but I want a F59PHI, or a nice runnin F40PH-2.

    Happy Railroading!!
