    George-

Am wondering if you meant for this inquiry to be in the Southern Railway Fallen Flag Forum?

When I was growing up in Pine Mountain, GA, the Man of War ran between Columbus, GA and Atlanta at least once a day. I think, originally it ran between East Point, GA and West Point, AL. The last name of the first engineer was Chipley. Since the Man of War went through a newly incorporated town, the town was named Chipley, GA. Around 1959, the name of Chipley was changed to Pine Mountain so that the town would attract more tourists for the brand new Callaway Gardens.
If you haven't found any photos of the Man of War, you can check the archives of Pine Mountain, GA and you'll probably find some there. The train stopped at several little towns in Harris County on the way to Columbus, such as Hamilton and Shiloh. They all had depots.

    Man O War

Here's a photo of the train leaving Atlanta in 1967.
At that time it made one round-trip Columbus to Atlanta.

The Man of War took the A&WP line out of Atlanta. Went to Newnan and got on the C of G Cedartown to Griffin line. Went a few miles to Raymond and got on the R line. It did not go to Shiloh that was the M line of the Southern. Both the R line and M line have been removed from service and the rails took up.

The CofG Modeler List at Yahoo! has some shots of the train, called the Man O' War. Not nearly as active of a list as it use to be but a good one never the less.

The Central of Georgia listings at the Passenger Car Photo Index has a few shots of CofG passenger equipment but its worth noting that in addition to the four built-new Budd cars built for the train (baggage - coach Fort Mitchell, 54-seat coaches Fort Oglethorpe and Fort McPherson, and tavern - lounge observation Fort
    Benning
there was also a Bethlehem Steel streamlined baggage - mail (15' mail apartment), an ACF lightweight baggage - express and one of the line's modernized coaches were also a part of the consist, at least in the early years, with the silver paint, orange "hat rail" and black lettering. Photos also show that a traditionally painted (blue and gray) modernized coach also saw use as demands warranted it.

Early operations had two daily round-trips for the Man O' War but was later cut back to one daily trip. The first and last run in the early years included the Bethlehem Steel baggage - mail. The tavern - lounge observation was pulled from the train around the same time that it dropped on round trip, but remained on the roster until Southern acquired the line.

The paint scheme itself changed over the years with the original delivery of the train not including the orange "hat rail" (stripe) but was applied within the first couple of years after the train entered service. Once Southern acquired the line the hat rail disappeared from the Budd cars, though lettering remained intact.

    Hope that this helps.

If you can please see Paul Faulks' "Trackside Around Atlanta With Howard Robins." While there are no photos of "Man O' War" there are several of her sister train "Nancy Hanks II." This was CofG's train from Atlanta-Savannah
