Passenger train traffic on the SCRS continues to improve. Ridership has increased threefold with the price of fuel increasing. Survey’s of off loading passengers report that it has become less expensive to ‘Take the Train” and leave the driving to the railroads.

The ACL, SAL and Southern now operate their name trains at or near full seat capacity. Each road has added full length dome cars and are reporting that they are having standing room only in those cars.

Their heavyweight cars are also being serviced to bring them on line for handling the additional traffic.

The passenger trains average 11 to 12 cars each with at least three E-8 units up front, resulting in some long trains.

The length of the trains requires that they be cut into two sections to utilize the union station. This keeps the station tower personnel very busy.

How’s the passenger traffic on your road?
