From Arthur Dubin's Some Classic Trains (c. 1964), two fun facts that I thought were of interest. During the 1920s, Pullman provided lodging for nearly 100,000 people every night. During the 1930s, 3,500 passengers dined in 61 dining cars each night on the PRR. Trains such as the Congressional, General and Senator were so heavily patronized that their consists incorporated not one, but two dining cars.
I do wish that we could travel by rail, once again. But there are so many places which are no longer rail served....
