1963 was the year big changes occurred for the trackside buildings in Patchogue. That is when the depot that is currently in operation opened. Wasn't the previous Ronkonkoma depot also was built in 1963? Were the 1963 Rokonkoma and Patchogue depots built with similar designs?
They are quite different and built at differing times as follows from my website (station info from Dave Keller): http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirrphotos/LIRR STATION HISTORY.pdf Patchogue: 2ND DEPOT OPENED: SUMMER/1888, RAZED: 5/16/63, 3RD DEPOT OPENED: 7/30/63 http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/patchogue/photos/Patchogue1960_ArtHuneke.jpg http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/patchogue/patchogue.htm Ronkonkoma: (LAKE RONKONKOMA) 1883, 2ND, RELOCATED DEPOT OPENED: 1883, BURNED: 1934 3RD, TEMPORARY, RECTANGULAR ONE-STOREY BUILDING WITH GABLE ROOF IN SVC: 1934-1937. 4TH DEPOT OPENED: 9/37, CLOSED WITH ELECTRIFICATION OF LINE: 1987 AND USED FOR STORAGE. Thanks NYANDW. I thought I read somewhere that Ronkonkoma was built in 1963, but when I checked the reference (Morrison, David D LIRR Stations. Arcadia Publishing, 2003), the SEP 37 opening date is correct.
LIRR History Info No problem! Please bookmark the Keller main site as follows: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirrphotos/lirrphotos.htm a TON of info, and: http://trainsarefun.com/lirr/lirrcontents.htm 10 years (2 Gig) of material.
