The first thing I thought when I seen her was "WOW its BIG!!!"
She looks good, although a little faded, but thank god she was saved from the scrapper, so people like me can see the one last example of the Little Joe, from America's Resourceful Railroad. Wrong time of day and the sun was wrong but...

    Excellent photos, twomule!
I'll bet morning sun is good on E70's good side!

All the 'Joes were single-ended in the 50's, with the installation of "J-R breakers" ( a device to prevent flashovers).

No. Those were E20, E21. I forget the exact story. As they ran in pairs, only one cab was needed. And there were turntables at Avery, Deer Lodge, and Harlowton.

Ah, if only she could tell story's, I would listen to them all. Does anyone know if she still has all her running gear intact? Could she possibly ever run again?

I'm assuming all her valuable internals were scrapped, after the trolley came down.
I wish I coulda seen these in action.
I'll have to settle for books and videos.:(

They were gutted for their copper scrap. But how badly stripped? I'd bet she could run again. It would take a bit of serious money, and finding some of the old, skilled personnel. Yet I would believe parts could be found. Perhaps with help from GE.

Eagle's Nest is on private land. No, I haven't been there yet. I would try to find the landowners first, and secure permission. I'd do that one in winter. Too many buzzworms. (rattlesnakes) Sixteen Mile Canyon is famous for its incredible population of snakes.

L'il Joes at End of The Line

Kind of sad photos taken in Tacoma and Chehalis of the L'il Joes waiting the torch. At least a couple were preserved. I'm not real sure but wasn't another Joe besides the one in Deer Lodge preserved?
