I ordered a couple of Peco's Unifrog medium turnouts to try out while I am still deciding about which track to use for my next layout. I have never used Peco track before or had a layout with a yard ladder for that matter but I want to start incorporating some staging this time around. As the photo indicates some of the track ties on the straight through line of travel need to be trimmed off before the next turnout in the ladder can be attached. The end of the throw bar also slightly touches the flex track below it. Do people usually trim off one side of the throw bars and trim up the ties to fit or do they place short pieces of straight track between the turnouts to give them more space? Or am I just completely doing the yard ladder all wrong?

It is easier to just use a short section of track one the diverging route to clear the throw bars. It would be just about 1 inch long to get the job done

    DCESharkman has a great idea.

Here is just another thought --- trim it. Take a sharp X-Acto knife (Or similar) cut the mounting pad and throw arm to fit. (I had done this many, many times)

I snipped a piece of flex track 1" long and with it in place I only have to trim a couple of ties on flex but the turnouts can remain unaltered for installation. Thanks David!

Trimming was definitely my first thought but when I was trying to find images of the Peco turnouts in use they always appeared to be completely intact. This is why I was curious if I'm missing something with N scale Peco turnouts. It appears that trimming or adding lengths of track between the turnouts in a ladder formation is the norm. Thank-you, Wolf!
