LEW mentioned the P&E in a recent other thread. I'm wondering- Is there anyplace on the 'Net that might have a decent system map of the line? Another question- Was the station of "Pekin" actually located within the town of Peoria? Boxcab E50
Box,Pekin was about 15 miles south of Peoria. This is what I think how it worked. There was the Pekin railroad but the P&E operated it as part of it's system. The P&E operated seperate from the NYC until PC. The crews had rights on the P&E proper and on the NYC east end to Springfield,O,really Columbus,O. I worked with these P&E men But they are all gone now as far as I know. I don't have a P&E timetable but will nib around and see what I can find. LEW
Wasn't there a railroad named the Peoria & Pekin Union? Dunno who owned that one? Believe the Rock Island was somehow involved. Maybe the P&E interchanged with them? If you find a good map of the P&E, I'd sure like to see it! Boxcab E50
Martyn- Yes. P&PU is still around. Member of ASLRRA, etc. Let's see- Minneapolis & St.Louis Ry also got into Peoria. They must have had some interaction with the Peoria & Eastern. In the back of my mind, I seem to recall some sort of coal loading or similar? Boxcab E50
Box,My son said that he thought Trains had an article about the P&E sometime ago.If you had access to an issue that listed all of the articles you could find it.Date wise is a question. LEW
LEW- Thanks for your e-note. Will check that. There is an on-line magazine search available. Don't have the URL at hand. However, I don't have any Trains magazines. Cleaned them out a few years back as they were taking up space, and I wasn't looking at them. Boxcab E50
