Ban On Train Photos Lifted CHICAGO, IL -- Railroad enthusiasts will once again be allowed to take pictures of trains from Metra platforms. Union Pacific Railroad on Monday announced that it's bowing to the train-lovers, who said the photography ban violated their First Amendment rights. The railroad is lifting the ban but says it reserves the right to question photographers on Metra platforms. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the ban was imposed a month ago for the safety and security of passengers. - The Associated Press, WBBM-CBS2, Chicago, IL
Yeah, thats what I thought!!!! Sure, question me about what I'm doin. Fine. No problem. But to tell me I can't do something that is legal. Try to take my film or worse my camera. Heck, even try to arrest me! Well, my mouth would surely land me in jail. Gee, thanks UP for following the laws of this country.
Great news!! Better than I expected. Maybe UP does care about public perception at some level???? In any case had this maintained it would have set a dangerous precident... John
SOMEBODY in the Omahaha offices pulled his or head out of his/her.....uh......caboose and saw the light.
But they still have some clouded judgement by banning railfans in their trespassing policies. BNSF is smart, allowing extra eyes, but UP is bigger, and could use the additional help even more.... :rolleyes2:
I'm just wondering if the wording of UP's announcement still leaves open the possibility of harrassment by RR bulls, even if not on UP property. Since I railfan a RR that is particularly nasty about trespassing (NS), I take extra precautions as to where I shoot. Same should go for any railfan, anyplace, anytime.
I know that, but their crews are not being explicitly instructed to report railfans, on or off the property...:lightbulb:
