Went out this evening and had a blast..Caught three trains. Those three being NS 337,Amtrak 74,and NS 119. I didn't get any pictures of Amtrak 74 as it passed me when I was on Highway 49 just past the Duke Power signal. It was late leaving Charlotte..around 45 mins late or so.

EDIT:Turns out 74 wasn't late leaving. Jeff Trull said it had to wait at Junker for 337 to pass because they were having signal trouble on the singletrack between Junker and Haydock..I remember hearing about that right after I got to Harrisuburg but never did hear which signal it was.

Wow.... the number style of 9361 is very odd... not like normal NS style.

I like the shot of William waving at the train. That is such a Norman Rockwell-ish pic! Kudos!

    Thanks guys!

Harold I thought it seemed werid to. I think thats the first NS I have seen with numbers that way.

Also I am not the best at being able to tell what engines are what...About the only one I can spot are the Dash 9 C40-W's.

I hear the easy way to tell is by the number series..like for example 6000-6999 is say an SD40-2 for example.

Is it true it goes in a series and if so does anyone have this table for me so I can print it off and know what I am looking at?

    Matt,
With a little practice and research, you'll be able to tell the different locomotive models. I think the best books for that are the Kalmbach Contemporary Diesel spotters guides. (if they have updated it in the past 10 years or so...)
A great source to help you solve both the model type and roster #'s is the NS 2004-05 Locomotive Directory (you can probably pick one up at Little Choo Choo Shop) [picture at: http://www.witherspublishing.com/catalog/images/NS%202004-2005%20Cover%20jpeg.JPG ] It lists all of the current models and lots of pictures.
