Looking for pictures of piggy back loading docks from '50's thru '70's. Any RR OK. Kim, How can I get about half dozen of your laser cut piggy back, flat car, trailer supports? Lindley

Also if you have SP Color Guide #1 there's a couple of good shots of the ramps in LA River Station or Taylor Yard. The are about 12 track long which would be an amazing sight in Z. I also have a lot of shots of the concrete PMT unit here in Medford I can forward. Joe MTL
The keystone Modeler article shows a photo of a large loading facility. The popular science article goes over early procedures. Early on, smaller towns used their circus car loading ramps. Most towns had them, so the railroads repurposed them. http://kc.pennsyrr.com/freightops/images/24trailer.jpg http://www.prrths.com/Keystone%20Modeler/Keystone_Modeler_PDFs/TKM%20No.%2065%2012-08%20PDF.pdf Popular Science - Google Books Dan S.
Thank you one and all. Kim and Robert - sorry for the mix-up in connecting names, faces and areas of interest. Kim is the animation guy and Robert is the laser guy. You both are great modelers and great in sharing your expertise. Joe - Thank you. BTW any word on the GP-35/GP9 snow plows? NO WAY am I going to model the big yard/loading facility. My idea is for a one spot, free lanced, could be installation. I plan to use 25' trainers on a standard 40 ft MTL flat car. I am after the illusion and not the full blown scale model (which I am probably not capable of doing anyhow). The 3 foot rule applies (and in Z scale that's a LONG way). Lindley
Lindley, Then a circus type loading ramp is all you would need. The following site has some good pics. The first three picture links show an eart and timber ramp and one of the bottom pictures on the page shows a railroad using an old flat car as a ramp. Kind of a neat idea. Here is the circus loading ramp I built for Van Buren. Here is the thread showing construction of the ramp http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=102114&highlight=tofc
Karin, looks like scale error or some one playing with photoshop, many times real scenes are less believable than model ones. Kim
Kim, Karin took that picture in Palmer Alaska, her home town before I drug her down to Medford. Remember, things are real big in Alaska......
