Steam? Who cares? (As I run for the bomb shelter...) :tb-biggrin:

Wouldn't it be great if this would fire imaginations, and one of the big N&W lokeys was un-retired... OK. So I'm dreaming. It could be made to happen.

Mikado's and Consolidations?...How cute. NS is so tight they sqeeek when they roll. C'mon, there's got to be a foamer NS stock holder that would ok lighting up the 1218. Would it kill them? What, it would cost the share holders 1/10 of a cent out of their quarterly profits to put a smile on tons of little boys faces.

Not the 611 but the three old steamers from the museum in Chattanooga will still look great running on the main line.

The 1218 is way beyond just lighting up. It was totally gutted, being rebuilt with new boiler tubes when NS pulled the plug. They just put the empty shell on display at the museum in Roanoke.

As a clarification to this discussion I saw on another site where an NS spokesman said "this will not resemble the former NS steam program" with the new plan to be fewer and more modest trips."

I can see the logic of smaller power and the need for diesel support at least to move the steam locomotives into position and assist in operations. Not a bad idea and would certainly lessen the strain on personnel and plant as well as contain the public while on the property. It might also provide more economical and affordable trips for the public.

For the modeler, I can envision another run of Kato Mikes decorated for the Southern along with Bachmann Consolidations in Southern paint.
