Anyone use pneumatic switch machines? I saw some at a recent GATS show and thinking of incorporating them into an Ntrak yard. I like the idea of not replacing burnt out switch machines. Outside of needing to lug an air tank around what are the disadvantages. Manual throws are not practical in this situation.

    Have not used these myself.
AFAIK there is only one manufacturer offering air operated turnouts

I know my dad looked at them for his backyard G scale pike. Apparently they're all the rage on outdoor layouts because of weather, distance, etc. Maybe you should check out the G scale forum?

They work great, just like they do on a player piano! You can also buy bellows cloth and make your own if you need larger ones. There are compressors, and vacuum pumps that are electric too. We have also tried airing up a truck tire, or several car tires, and through a regulator, will do the same job. Easier to roll around too.
