I received my registration packet from the PNWC, NRHS and there are quite a few interesting events on the menu, including somewhat of a "mystery" steam special up the Columbia gorge on July 6, listed as the "Western Star" steam train. Interestingly, no power was identified. Hmmm, we have the SPS 700 and SP 4449 resident in Portland, rumors abound about UP steam and CP 2816 attending, hmmmmmm. I will not take up a lot of room advertising all the rest of the events. Go to NRHS 2005 and go to the new "Tickets Available" page to get a list of events. BTW the Banquet on Friday night will feature Steve Lee, UP and Doyle McCormack, 4449 as speakers.
Just learned that UP 844, 3985, ATSF 3751, SP 4449 and SP&S 700 will join CP 2816 for a "sextupleheader" on the first train through CORP's tunnel 13. If I had put that up yesterday, would there have been more interest? I am only 5 days too late.
YoHo, It isn't true. I put that there to see if anyone would comment, as there doesn't seem to be much interest in legitimate posts concerning the convention. There has been NO more word from the chapter concerning details of the steam trip. There is NO word from UP about sending any steam. There has been an ad for a trip for 2816 from Vancouver to Portland for the convention, but again no official word. I have sympathy for the guys running it, because there is no way to confirm, until the last minute, that a trip can be run in today's climate. Stay tuned.
Rumors abound around here that 3985 will NOT make the trip!! The story revolves around the traffic situation. Too much traffic to allow for a steam excursion. I haven't been able to confirm or refute the story.
