Joe,I've converted dozens of computer power supplies to standard power supplies like this:

    http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-a-Computer-ATX-Power-Supply-to-a-Lab-Power-Supply

There's a 3.3 volt and 5 volt output on all of them, the 3.3 amp output is usually huge,15 amps or more. And any old junk computer has one..I just did two old monsters last week for RC car charging, one had 20 amps at 12 volts..

Go on e-bay under N-Scale trains “Other” and there is at least one person selling various power supplies specifically made for powering LEDs.

They are available in various wattages and some have “Special Affects”. Prices including S&H seemed reasonable to me. I purchased some LEDs from this vender and had no problems with the order.

Come to think of it I believe the S&H was free.

Oops, my bad. You will find the vender selling LEDs and the power supplies for same, under either “Details” or “Track and accessories”.
