Although I did not see much railroad activity during my visit to the Czech Republic, I did get a few photos in two of the Prague railroad stations. Here are the first three. The first is a Class 111 Electric Switcher, number 020-4. Class 162, Electric Passenger Locomotive, Number 038-4 gets its face washed before departure. Class 150 Electric "Fast Train" Passenger Locomotive, Number 025-5
Interesting pics Peirce. Thanks for posting. I can't say that they are the most attractive body styles that I have ever seen. Charlie
These do make me think of other eastern European pictures seen. Iron Curtain era. Am wondering about the condition their rail transportation system? Guess it's too early in the morning. I can't think of the railroad name to go along with the symbol on the locos? Was there much freight moving by rail? Or a lot of trucks? Boxcab E50
My overall impression is that the Czech rail system is that it is not in the best of shape. When I visited the stations, I saw movement of passenger trains only. The three trips I took into the countryside didn't produce any sightings of train movements, freight or passenger. I saw tracks, and, from a distance, I saw a freight yard with a few tank cars and fewer others. One Prague resident I talked to was rather cynical about the status of the Czech rail system. He said he was surprised they were running at all. One reason he mentioned was the lack of money, and the fact, according to him, that the workers have not been paid for a while. That is his view, which I was not in a position to verify. The equipment in these pictures does look old, but in fairly good repair. Later, I will have more pictures in which some equipment may be older still, and some that appeares to be newer.
