That's an excellent shot John! Is that from the MTL figure 8 display layout featuring their new log cars and their new sectional track system? Here is a shot of me, John, and Chris at the NTS last month: -Robert
Hi, Pray59, Yes, the shot of the Micro-Train Z scale GP35 was on the M-T figure-8 layout at the National Train Show. (Unfortunately, my photo of the layout didn't come out well). Great to see you and Chris in Cincinnati.
The photo looks great, I can't wait to get one. Years from now people will look back and probably say this was the landmark loco for z scale.
what exactly is the fascination with the PRR? it seems to be an odd line to begin with ... Don't get me wrong ... I have nothing against that road or this model ... I went to college on their Main Line (well much after the PRR was gone) I just think UP/BN/SP/BNSF/D&RGW and such would cover a much larger base than the old Pensy. But maybe that is a geographical bias being out here in the Pacific Northwest. I certainly hope they come out with some cool roadnames between this stealth geep and that god-awful happy birthday engine (what's up with that anyway) I need modern power for Intermodal ... please? Does anyone have a list of who did operate this engine (then AND now)?
I don't know how MTL picks their roadnames either, but I'm in favor of Pacific Northwest roads myself. I hope they release in a couple roadnames at a time, but I'm prepared to repaint balloons and keystones if that's what comes out first. If you go to online shops like N Scale Supply and BLW, they have photo's of the N Scale paintschemes, so you can get a better idea what roads had them. -Robert
A better question is who did NOT run this locomotive. I did quite a bit of research on the following site: http://usloki.tripod.com/ Look under EMD, GP35 for numerous illustrations of the roadnames the GP35 appeared. Rob Kluz
Does anyone know if it is going to one roadname every month or so, or will it be like Atlas and bring out five or six?
It seems to me that MTL ran a couple paintschemes at a time when they first released the FT in N Scale. I sure hope they do a western road at the same time as an eastern road. -Robert
Well, I read on the Yahoo list that it's only going to be Pennsy to start, and that the shell is painted with a hard to strip laquer, but it's thin enough to spray a primer over without killing details. Yes, it looks like time to paint. I think I will try to just do BN green over the black, to see how well it covers. -Robert
Penssy?!?! Who the heck wants one of those, except the repainter's? We have waited so long for this to come down the mainline, and now we have to wait longer for a good roadname? There are so many railroads that are more favorites to everyone and more logical for sales for a more well known railroad. I guess I'll stick with my F-units a little longer.
I just want something that is inexpensive (relatively) and that can be found pulling Gunderson Husky-stacks ...
Looks like the Pennsy guys will get theirs first! I am so upset with MTL's marketing professionals. With something like this GP-35, they should have placed a "Z" scale poll on their website or even one in the Z Scale yahoo group asking for suggestive First Release Paint Schemes. Pennsy! Not I, I will wait for the red/silver and/or blue/yellow Santa Fe to come out. May even get a green and white Burlington Northern. I model the BNSF near modern so all of these can play a nice part of my layouts. No dis-respect to all you other road modellers, I have my wants! Wish MTL would have done a multiple roadname release for their first. Might give them an example of which sells faster! Have a good day!
just discovered that both SF and SP painted GP-35s in their we-painted-these-things-too-soon Kodakhrome sceme. of course BNSF has these things wearing almost ever combination of the BN and ATSF colorschemes imaginable ... haven't seen one in their new colorscheme (before or after they dropped the word "railway" in the logo) ... but i would imagine it is only a matter of time. BNSF Railway new colors ... that could be a cool "special-production, limited run model" ... wonder what the cost would be.
Well, the GP-35 is finally here. I hope to have my copy next week with my Z-Track magazine. All this wainting is finally over.
31 Days ... to maybe have a modern GP-35! or at least of a road that didn't go bust back in what? the 1970s? Kudos to MTL though ... it does look awesome!
I agree, kudos to MTL. It looks great. Plus the price is right! I can't wait for the first locos to start arriving in the hands of waiting train nuts! I have no doubt we will see more modern variants of this loco. It is interesting since it spanned the ages and can run in the fallen flags or more recent liveries. Rob Kluz
