Here is a link to a photo study I did on San Timoteo Canyon in Southern California. Warning to modem users: it's a big file. It is an aerial mosaic of the area betwen Redlands Blvd and the 10 freeway, with several of Don Winslows photos (used with permission) to show the terrain.

I wanted to play with the new color photos on MapQuest, to see how well the prototype could be adapted for a new layout at our new house. It's not much to look at, but it inspires me and makes me remember prototype details while planning the new layout. The orientation of the photos is to accomidate my color printer.

I'd be curious to read your opinions on the technique for researching a prototype for a layout. Thanks...

    Ed,

I like the idea. I've been using topo maps and aerial photos to follow the line I'm considering modeling. But I hadn't thought of putting all the pieces together before. What did you use to combine the pictures?

I copied the images from the MapQuest site and then pasted them into a new image using MS PhotoDraw (like Adobe Photoshop). I could then slide each element around to get them to line up right. I then saved the combined elements as a single image (about 10x40" long!). The browser doesn't do a good job of printing the image, but if I open it in MS Publisher and format it as a banner, I can tile it into a banner.
