Could this be the prototype for the new Bachmann N 2-8-0 ?? Here is IC 908 http://65.35.223.252/ftparchive/Steam%20Photos/2-8-0/ic%20908.jpg ___________ Also here is IC 905, with a little better contrast in the photo http://65.35.223.252/ftparchive/Steam%20Photos/2-8-0/ic%20905.jpg ___________ BTW here is the home page for these photos http://65.35.223.252/ftparchive/Steam%20Photos/ eNjoy
There is a photo of B&O 2-8-0 #2784 in the book "B&O Power". 2784 is the number of my Bachman 2-8-0. The photo in the book is taken in such a way that you can't see the front of the loco but looks very similar to the model. The only differences I can detect are the tender ladder has two top railings and B&O always mounted the headlight high and the model's isn't.
The prototype for the "old" Bachmann 2-8-0 was a Reading, an S-Class I believe. It is very distinctive because of its ultra-wide firebox normally used for anthracite coal. The new Bachmann 2-8-0 appears to have a firebox of more common proportions, generally used with bituminous coal. I agree with Don that the IC 900 Class looks close to the new Bachmann 2-8-0. But then what do I know? I slap an Elesco feedwater heater on a Kato USRA Heavy Mike and say "Yeh, I think the B&M owned some that looked sorta like that .... " Sure we all know they never did ... but what the Hey?
