    Is this a prototypical car?

I know the red cars were before the green cars which were last before merger?

I can't find a prototypical picture of any red MKT car of any type with this large, white MKT on the side. Many pictures of the green with white lettering, of course.

Hope I am not about to dump all my SP stuff and model MKT, you reckon? :D

    Thanks for the help.

No doubt about that one! Thanks very much! :rose:

I will say I went to the fallen flags (George Elwood) and only found cabooses, engines, and stations.

Wait a minute! Found 'em! :)

Nick Molo's Frisco/Katy Color Guide to Freight Equipment (published by Morning Sun books) has three photographs of cars in this scheme, one of which is on the cover.

Nick indicates there were at least 98 cars in this scheme, they were rebuilt in 1971, and they were assigned for transportation of ammunition from a plant in MacAlester,OK. The red color with large billboard lettering was intended to draw attention to the hazardous nature of the assignment.

I remember that plant- it's at Savannah, several miles south of Mcalester. IIRC, it's still in operation.

    McAlister, OK

Hey!! :eek:mg: I have one of those IM cars. To the left of the door is printed, "When empty, return to MKT RR agent, McAlister, OK. For ammo loading." Neat! How about that! :)

Could have just read that and saved all the trouble.

First time I saw one of these was in a slow-moving Katy freight (they were all slow-moving back then) in September 1973 in Adair, OK, while at a foorball game.
