Prototyping Regional/Obscure Lines

    So in doing more online research because of acute boredom and a need to feel like I'm making some progress towards a layout, I stumbled across an amazing resource that I wouldn't have considered if it weren't for Google.

    The Library of Congress's online archives have extensive resources in their collection which include not only prototype photographs from around and before the turn of the century, but equipment lists, and more.

    In their collection of documents for the Western Railway of Alabama (later absorbed by Seaboard and L&N) is a map of the Montgomery Shops. Also included in the documents are thirteen mechanical drawings/blueprints, detailing the facility construction there, even to the point of showing the exact specification for the shop's coaling tower.

    I've found images and documents for other roads as well here, so I'd recommend if your focus is a historic and defunct prototype road, take the time to see what the Library of Congress has to offer. You may just hit a modeling jackpot. :tb-shocked:
