    I caught this locomotive today on the NS..... identify what it is and its former road number (or series on CR)

    Hit the nail on the head, SD50, most likely ex CR #5088. There are some big gaps in that ex-CR number series, as NS only has 18 of these units (4800-4817). Rest went to CSX (5950-5961).

    Talked to both the Division Road Foreman and the Detroit Diesel Foreman and both ageed the 4816 is a former CR GE B-40-8

    Thanks for all of your answers! I agree... it must be a B40-8, since that is the cab sublettering ;)
