How many units are left in chessie paint that are operational?

Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System

I don't know, but they are still out there. I have a photo of an ex-B&O unit still in Chessie paint at the CSX yards in Lynchburg, VA and I saw another one alongside the Ohio River about a month ago.

    I found it out

22 units left in paint as of late 1999
    includes GP38,GP40,SD40
    1 in C&O paint (SD40)
only some of the units are active.

Chessie, I saw a Chessie lash up in Trains, and heard of another in Ohio!

    Happy Railroading!

Mojo the Magical Monkey will come and take you all from your safe little RR to BC Rail, where you will have to do slave labour for Dane, and his broken lady of steam, the Royal Hudson [IMG] Man, I have too much time!

    (having severe chessie unit withdraw)

I heard one is in toledo so when I get a chance I will try to find it. I have also heard that there is some TORCO units still in chessie only they have the number and lettering on the cab removed (CSX 998,999?)

More than likely any unit remaining in predecessor paint will be retired before they will be repainted. Notice that they are all older, pre Dash 2 units. This does not bode well for them. Get those shots while you can.

It has been a LONG time since I have seen any Chessie units; in fact, the last Chessie unit I saw was a GP38 that had been sold and was running on a short line(AC&W), still in full Chessie paint (Oct.2000!)

I have no Idea what number of the engine I sw I do Know it was 6-45 so I tcould be:
    6245
    6345
    6445
    6545

No 6045, or 6145 because it was repainted in the early 90's
