Any websites or personal information on putting in a decoder into a Concor Hudson 4-6-4? Also does anyone own one? What is your experience? I bought one because I wanted to have the Hiawatha passenger set with "cool" looking engines from the forties. i know I could use diesel motive power, but I like those steams. Also have the GHQ adapter set so I can paint it the right colors as well. Thanks to all that reply! Jeff
jeff: Some of the late Con-Cor 4-6-4 are an easy decoder installation. The early CC 4-6-4's have to have the motor isolated from the frame. In both cases, place the decoder in the tender. Does your tender have a rear light? Stay cool and run steam...
Bob Took the shell of the engine and tender and this what I see: a light in the tender with a red wire and black wire. A male and female connector from the engine to male and female connector in the tender. Two black wires that connect the male/female connectors to the actual motor. No other wires that I can see? Can I get a decoder in there with only that many wires! Jeff PS: It does say made in China.
Jeff: The two black wires from the motor are equivalent to orange and gray on the decoder. Try hooking up the red and black to red and black on the decoder. If that doesn't work, you'll have to run red and black from decoder to frame of the loco which is split. The loco headlight isn't wired to the decoder and will remain on all the time. Stay cool and run steam.....
