Hi, guys. Haven't posted here in a while, but I have a question.

How do you put a wash on tunnel portals? I have a single tunnel with two portals, naturely. Here is a pic for you to see. They aren't in place yet and the right tunnel, I call the "Dummy Tunnel," will be blocked up.

    Thanks guys, Jon.

You can airbrush a wash on the tunnel portals using 85 % blue windshield wiper solution and 15% grimy black.

After that is dry you can brush some white on the portal and then wipe it off to highlight the cement seams between the rocks that make up the portal.

Stay cool and run steam......

India ink, and some 91% isopropyl alcohol, about 50:1 ratio, or so. Brush it liberally over the ares you want 'dirty', repeat as necessary, to achieve the look you want. Bob's comments are also very useful. Keep us posted on how it looks!

Are you looking to put exhaust stains on the portal? If so, I use charcoal, blended in w/ a brush & my finger, then seal w/ dullcoat. The 'uphill' exit portal should have alot of exhaust stains, the downhill is usually alot cleaner...:

I painted them a light gray color. Then some light raw sienna washes to bring some color into the rock. Then several washes of diluted black fountain pen ink.
