Does anybody have data on the Coahuila & Zacatecas? If so, I have a couple of questions.

When was it merged into N de M? I have a year of 1972. Month? Day?

Is there a decently detailed C&Z system map, anywhere on the 'Net?

Also, I have a piece of paper, noting a location of "C del Oro". I would guess the "C" is partial abbreviation of Ciudad del Oro? Have been looking in atlases, and on maps for this place. So far, no luck.

    Anyone?

Well, after some very serious searching, I found a map. From that, I was able to identify the station name. And thus answer my own question. The location is Concepcion del Oro. It's near the northern border of Zacatecas.

I looked around a little bit for information. I wasn't able to elaborate on anything that you had already figured out.

However... I speak a pretty decent amount of Spanish, so if you find something that is only in Spanish post the link here and I will take a look and see if I can glean anything off of it for you.

I can mumble a few words and phrases, in Spanish and German. But memories have faded. High school was 40 years ago.

Here is the document which spurred my question:

While I'm sitting here, this is my clearance card from Avalos:

    Regarding the first one...

The telegraph message, the best I could tell, was...

"In spurs 1 and 2 (there are) materials from Pen~oles and Avalos there are bad places, be careful."

I don't know if he is saying that there are bad places on the track, or if there are several banditos, or what.

Here's something I found about Pen~oles, in English. Under the heading "Other Pen~oles railroads" is something about Avalos. There are also, apparently, links to photos at the end, some of which are of Avalos locos/operations.

I can translate the boilerplate stuff for you if you would like, too. Let me know.

Ooh, ooh! Take a look at this page. I think the company being referred to is Compania Minerales de Pen~oles -- Avalos, or, basically, the Mineral Company of Pen~oles (not clear if this is a place name, the owner, just the name of the company, or the mineral being mined, but it appears to be the name of the company) in Avalos, which I take to be either a region or city or area in Zacatecas.

That roster looks like a lot of fun for a modeler.

Looks like a narrow gaugers delight. Even some two foot stuff!

Late to the thread, but I'll add a couple of items.

The line originally ran from Saltillo (capital of the state of Coahuila) to its end at Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas. A branch was also built from Avalos to San Pedro Ocampo to serve other mines. Probably had other small branches added later. The line was built by private British mining interests, the Mazapil Copper Company, in 1898.

I have the official date of the incorporation of the CyZ into NdeM as 12 February 1970. ("Los Ferrocarriles de México", Sergio Ortiz Hernan, Vol II, pg 256)

You've already correctly figured out that the C was Concepción.

The CyZ was 3' gauge. If there was any 2' gauge stuff, it was most likely private industrial roads feeding the CyZ.

I believe the line was wide-gauged, but I don't have a date for that. I also believe that at least part of the line survived until recently. If you find a map of the area, look for a line heading west from Gomez Farias, Coahila, running to Concepción del Oro, Zac.

If you want, I can check with people who should know that kind of stuff down here.

The National Railroad Museum in Puebla has an old CyZ Consolidation, and several wooden passenger and head end cars on exhibit.

    Regards

    Ed

    Ed-

The 2 foot reference, was to that seperate web site Adam had noted above.

Thanks for the additional information!

Are you considering some On30 modeling of these roads?

It looks like a great prototype.

It does seem quite interesting. Would likely be a good subject for modeling. But for any plans here, I'll be sticking to my native PNW. Love the salt water, mountains, rivers, forests.
