Hi everyone! Hope you all are having an interesting time with whatever weather you've got (currently here in Colorado, it's snowing, with several inches having already fallen). Anyway, here's the selections. From r_i_straw, we have a Royal Gorge tourist train co_riff with an ex-UP A&O diesel and in a photo by Glenn Smith (my collection), Rio Grande 4-8-4 1803
Great colorful selections this week, even if the M-68 is in black and white! The M-68 class 4-8-4 is unique in that it is equipped with 'overfire jets' (the coffee can-like apparatus installed on the side of the firebox). Overfire jets were required by city ordinance by Salt Lake City officials for smoke abatement. I'm not sure how efficient they were, but they sure are unique.
Nice, once again, Will and photographers. You know I love the steam shots. What's the history of the red, white and blue Royal Gorge unit?
The Royal Gorge unit is an ex Atlanta and West Point GP40#728, built in 1969. It has the flared radiators in back like the GP40Xs but don't know if those were factory installed or added later. Before coming to Colorado it was Virginia Railway Express V20.
How is the A&O doing these days? I recall when started up, they seemed to be having motive power issues. Then it changed ownership.
Boxcab, don't know much about it. They are having trouble ,too. These two SD90's are gone. I think CSX are using mostly their engines now. Curtis
