Hello everyone, hope your weekend is going well, here are the selections. bierbass with NY&LE ALCOs co_riff in Huntington, WV cfritschle with some UP hoppers and r_i_straw with a former Anschutz business car
Nice selection again, Bill - and you gotta love those FPA4s... classy Alco cabs with good old 251s gurgling away inside....
I believe that they are still operable as a recent issue of a UK magazine that I get had a photo of the units operating last year.
They were originally purchased by Canadian National in the 1950s (CN was the only customer for the 251-engined FPAs). They went on to serve VIA and then many, many were sold to tourist lines, mostly in the US, where a lot still run today. Quite a testament to their durability. One of their sisters, 6765, is on display here at the Canadian Railway museum, Exporail, in its original (and gorgeous) green, yellow and black passenger livery.
Just an added note on the FPA-4's. There are a few that I believe are still operating at the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, AZ, including the last FPA-4 to be built. When I was there many years ago, I had the pleasure of riding behind one, not sure how often they're used over the F40FH's now. Definitely good looking in the GCRy scheme! -HL
