Hello everyone! Here are this week's selections. BoxcabE50 with a PA r_i_straw with an E8 co_riff with a GP49x far from home and YoHo with a GP60M
Ken's PA looks small sandwiched between the BNSF engine and bulkhead flat, yet it's the same size as the Crescent's E8 which looks huge in Russell's photo. Notwithstanding, both are beautiful engines from an era when manufacturers cared as much about the engine's image as with the performance.
Hank- When I saw that coming through, I immediately noticed the size differential. What had seemed years ago to be a BIG diesel, is no longer.
I sure wish I could get back there to Spencer, NC in two weeks when the big Streamliners Hoedown will take place. Saving all my pennies to go to the N Scale Enthusiast (Collectors) convention in Roanoke a few weeks later. Some of the tours I signed up for there are to the the Cass Scenic Railroad, Freight Car America shops (in part of the old NS shops there in Roanoke), the Winston Link museum and some home layouts in Lynchburg.
Legoman, great job. I'm so glad you included Ken's shot of the PA. You know, as an old steam curmudgeon, I have clear memories of those first generation cab diesels, the Alco PA and FA, the EMD E's and F's, Baldwin Sharks and babyfaces, GE Erie builts, etc. I kind of wish I could get to the big celebration at Spencer, too. Russell, I hope you get a bunch of photos at the Cass Scenic. I may be able to get some of the Niles Canyon next month. Nice jobs everyone.
A PA and an E8 - from the time when it was just as important how an engine looked as how it worked. And there's no finer looking passenger power than a PA. Pity CN didn't bite after the demos - they would have looked fantastic in CN's green, yellow and black passenger colors.
You've got that right! And, esthetics of power today just can't match for having an appealing appearance.
