I'll be goin to China in July for just over a month. I wondering if anyone had some suggestions of places to get some good shots. I'll be in Dalian which is in Northwestern China on a pennsula. Also there is a good chance that at the end of my trip I'll in Beijing for two days. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Cool!!!!!!!! Hope you can get some shots and share them with us... :camera: :camera: :camera: :camera:
Cool! From what I understand there is still STEAM running around, or perhaps it has all gone cold in the last few years.
Didn't one the latest MR mags have a China steam article? Might I ask what brings you to China? Other than trains? I was once a poor college student as well, I know it's not cheap to make a round the globe trip!
Trains Magazine has had a few articles and news items on China steam recently, you might try to search their website. Also, Google might return some good results for "China Railroad Steam"...?
I'm goin to teach english. At a Univeristy in Dalian, China. Yes, its not cheap, but as an engineering student, my interships pay pretty good. Plus I'm good with money and budgeting.
Definitely best of luck, and be safe over there! How soon you leaving? Never forget you'll be in a communist country...
And here I thought this would be about Santa Fe Mimbreno and Katy Bluebonnet china patterns. Aw, rats. Good luck teaching english. My nephew is going to Russia for a year to do the same before he enters grad school. He attended class for a semester there last year so he knows what he is getting into.
The last revenue run of mainline steam in the world was on the JiTong Railway on December 8, 2005. http://home.c2i.net/schaefer/jitongoverview.html Steam still runs on some smaller operations - see http://www.mytelus.com/travel/article.do?pageID=home&articleID=2281616&lid=hp2 and http://rcswww.urz.tu-dresden.de/~menius/trains/china475.htm
Marshall, good luck with your travels to China. It's an interesting place to visit, and I guarantee moreso to work in. And forget it's Communist - it's got one of the strongest (read Capitalist) economies in the world. If you need timetable info, have a look at Duncan Peattie's China TimeTable page - http://www.chinatt.org/ He has downloadable timetables available in .pdf format. Tell him I sent you (we worked together in HK some years back and are in the same industry).
Well guys, I'm flying out tomm. if i have access to a computer I'll try to post some pics and updates while i'm in China.
Today's the big day! Have a safe flight, and let us know when you get there! Flying around the world is a big deal--been there, done that.
