Its snowing here in Northern Utah again today, so I'm just kicking around the house, and was thinking we got a Railfanning Utah & Nevada thread, why not post one up for Idaho. I use to spend a lot of my free time in the summer chasing trains on the Ogden Sub, which runs from Ogden Utah to McCammon Idaho, I have also chased train from McCammon to Montpelier and back to Pocatello. I have also been out on the Eastern Idaho Railroad a few times in the past.

So here are some pics from Idaho, fell free to post anything you have from Idaho as well.

First I'll start off with photos from my 12th Wedding Anniversary which happen to fall on Railroading Day In North America 2003. How many of you have gotten away with chasing trains on your Anniversary, and with your wife's Sister to boot? We al went out along the Ogden Sub and got all the way to McCammon with out seeing one train. But while we are here mite as well take a pic of the McCammon depot.

the Depot is owner my the city and use as there city hall, its near the tracks but ther are no tracks by it now.

    We head for Soda springs....

Still not much happening on on the line, this line from from Green River Wyoming to Pocatello Idaho.

We stop in Soda Springs to get a photo or two of the gysser, and I snap this UP train headed east on the west end of town.

We leave Soda Prings headed east for Montpelier, the tracks move away from the main highway so youhave to know the back roads in the area to get to the tracks. we head down a side road to a place called 8 Mile crossing.

We shot this coal train at 8 Mile crossing. We head back to the main road to find the next side road, which because I have been in the area before I know runs most of the way to Montpelier near the tracks, but it a dirt road. We come to a siding called Pescadero and find out why trains are few and far between.

The UP EC-4 is out running the line.

It's getting late inthe afternoon and things start to brake loss on on the line.

We find this fraight train following the EC-4 at Pescadero. We head for Montpelier and take some photos in the yards, then go find some dinner before heading back home.

We head back to Soda Springs and I head the Acid Train is headed for the mine, so we jump off the highway and make a run to intercet the train.

The acid train runs from the Kennecott Mine in SLC to the Mine just north of Soda Springs.

The Scanner come to life and tells us there is a meet planed at Telmage, and its on the way back so why not run by there.

We pass the west bound just as it entering the siding and fine a good spot on the west end to get some pics.

The east bound shows up in a few min for it's meet. Next we hear ther eis a meet in Bancroft with the EC-4, so we head west for the big city of Bancroft Idaho.

The EC-4 holds the main for two westbounds, but wait theres more....

A westbound from Telmage Shows up to hold the main line behind the EC-4.

What commodity loads out here? Agricultural? Mineral? Hard to see the spur, so I wonder if it's even still used?

I have a few more Station/Depot photos from Idaho, I have posted them in my Albums on RailImages. You say East of this one?

Well lets see, all the photos I Just posted in my ~~~> My Albums <~~~ Under Idaho Railfanning.

Here are three more: Shoshone Idaho Depot

    Pocatello Idaho Union Station

Montpelier Idaho Depot, {that's it behind the C&NW locos}.

As for the other question "What commodity loads out here? Agricultural? Mineral?" I'm not sure, but there are LARGE farms in this area, so I would guess Agricultural. There are Phosphate mine in the Soda Springs area to the east of here, but none right in this area. The Phosphate mine is were the Acid Train is headed.

    Enjoy.

Very nice. That Pocatello depot is grand! This part of ID is flatter than I'd imagined.. ...of course, my imagination is of MILW Little Joes running thru the ID Bitterroots!

Referencing Pocatello as a Union Station must date back to OSL Days.

Its Been a while sence my last trip to Railfan Idaho, But one of the best places I found was the Eastern Idaho Railroad in Rupert Idaho. At the time I was not even awear that this railroad was around. It use to be the UP, and that is what I though I was looking for, but this is what I found.

I have been back a few times and chased the line to Twin Falls, were I found this moster sitting for the day.

Ofcoures I stumbled on them on a Sunday, were all th epower was parked in the yards at Rupert or Twin Falls. They also run some ex-UP line in the Idaho Falls area too.

I was bored today so I though I would see if I could catch this train that when past my house north bound, I was hoping it would have to made a meet some place and give me a southbound to chase back home but it didn't. so anyway I head out and by the time I'm coming up to Cache Junction it rounding the curve, so I give chase and start passing it at Trenton, Yes these are UTAH locations, but by the time I got ahead o fit enough to set up for it we were just about in Weston Idaho, so I figure the small bridge would be a good place to catch it. heres the video.

Neat video! You sound a lot like me. By the time I get ahead of a train I usually end up up in the next county and or state.
