I need a railroad car float for the harbor portion of my layout. The Walthers kit (currently unavailable from Walthers) seems huge at 36" long.

    Two questions:
1.) Can that kit be shortened by cutting away some of the middle of it?
2.) Is there another shorter kit or built-up model available?

    Thanks a ton,
    George

    RR Car Float (HO Dcale?)

    Hey George, Wait a minute..
Yes if you have a band saw and a new fine tooth blade.
Not everyone has cut a plastic hull crosswise, so if you want to discuss it here, that is OK, and if you want to email me at home that is OK too if I can post our progress on here.
Eiter way post photos as you go along, please.

Don't know of new kits unless some in the site above.

I was going to say the Sylvan one, but I guess they don't make that in HO.

There are a few model boats starting to show up in HO 1:87 scale, but only two scales are close, 1:76 and 1:94. I built the Mercedes 775 "Wolfenstanger" (Hitler's favorite parade car) that was only made in the 1:76 scale. My intent was to have it mounted in a corner show room with a crowd of people looking at it, but it was too big.
Your ships will look the same way, either too large or too small to look right. You will have to do some serious scratch building, or get some fittings from Goldmedal Models.

    Moin, Harald,

Now it becomes understanding that you use the bargeat model meets like FEMA and others.

Looks like you do good work Harald. Do you carry the barge, or roll it around on the table? Itwould be no problem to cut a straight hull like the barge.

Well, that timer got me again, deleted my whole post!!!

    Moin / hello

The barge in the picture is not mine. She belongs to an other FREMO member from
    the Netherlands.
He build the barge from the box - but didnĀ“t use the middle elements.
Nearly no cutting of parts was done.

My own barge has normal length. I also have some barges milled out of wood.

Sometimes the barges are used as a kind of stageyard.

    Tschuess / bye

    Harald

I have an old MR from 1968 or 67, that has a scratchbuilt ferry slip and the tail end of a ferry that is used to hide a return loop. I could easily be convinced to part with this magazine. :)
