EJ&E meets C&NW at Barrington, IL, 1976. Tower is at left. The 663 is a year old SD-38-2 and the 6808 is a three year old SD-40-2.

When J crews went to beans, they'd use the interchange track to tie up behind the grocery store. :)

Yes, EMDs everywhere when I was a teen. I so wanted to see something else and finally caught up with a GE and Alco about 1974.

My first GE was an Auto Train U-36B on display at Chicago's North Western Station, there to promote an expanded route between Louisville and Florida. I think my first Alco sighting was from my seat in Amtrak's Floridian, passing through the L&N's Patio Yard at Winchester, KY. Heady times.

:) Looking at my shots, I think I captured only one MILW SD-40-2. It was on a dark, grubby day and my negative has attracted dust like a magnet. I'll clean up this shot someday. Taken at Rondout, IL about 1975 or 1976.

We know GP30s were first produced over 60 years ago and PSP 3005 is almost 60 years old. They sure don't look that old when all fixed up, do they.

Oops, I guess the 3005 was "only" 47 years old at the time of the picture. :D

The GP-30 is probably the best looking EMD out there, IMHO.

A GP30 is a GP35 with curves in the right places.

    Kinda like Mae West.;)

    I love GP30s.

Here's a post-sunset series at Gassman Coulee Trestle:

From 07/21/1979 at Deval Interlocking in Des Plaines, IL, a Soo manifest heads north across the C&NW's Harvard Sub and will soon cross the MILW/C&NW joint freight line. That's Deval Tower to the right and semaphore signals at the left. The lashups in that era were great weren't they? Looks like we have here an SD-40, an F-7B and a GP-30. :)

    (y) I caught the 718 at Mundelein, IL on 08/19/1978. Arnold Rapido produced an N Scale Soo GP-30 which I so wanted as a kid, but never had.

    Love that old Soo action!

    Speaking of the Soo....
Upper & Under at Gassman Coulee. The train is eastbound, actually east of the trestle, and the CP train is westbound on the ex-Soo.

How did you manage this catch? Sheer luck, or somehow a hint in advance?
