Oh man, I wish I could have been there with you. I've seen the LV only once, in Columbia, SC on 05/30/2015 and it was trailing. For an anthracite roads fan, it just isn't fair.
That's mine! The alterations from stock were made right about at that time! It was the locomotive in one of the Atlas train sets. Funny, I was meaning to post that picture today but didn't yet. Doug
I've only seen the LV unit a couple of times in all the years it's been out, and never in the lead before. Recently, the few heritage units that have run through here in daylight have all been trailing units. I was hoping to catch it at Wyo JCT where it's more open, but the train had no work at Reading and bypassed Spring ST yard
Well, NS 2529 is a SD70 and the trucks seem to be pretty ordinary too : http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=521114 It's been rebuilt into a SD70ACC since then. I was astound to see NS still bought standard cab SD units in the 1990s. Acording to this roster https://www.nslocos.com/main.html they had a total of 80 such beasts.
Somewhere in south Texas along the Rio Grande River. Check out the tank car. With all the milk cans piled up to the right, I hope they were not pouring raw milk into those non-refrigerated wooden tanks.
Late afternoon and a bit dark and dreary yet still a scene that screams railroading! Friday 11/15/2024
Wood fired at that. I bet that gnarly load in the tender was mesquite as it was and still is considered a pest plant on the range land in south Texas. Always an abundant supply. Just pop the lid on the diamond stack and the cinder screen provides you a good place to BBQ your dinner.
