You would think in these times that we are in that you could finally get that rare train on ebay. Let me tell you there has been alot of rare and out of production Charles Ro and USA Trains going thru the auction this month and those auctioning them off have waited til Christmas which is a good sales move I must say because some are selling for quite a bit of money. I'm not sure about everyone else but I'm a big fan of the Polar Express and bought one of those cheapo Lionel G scale battery powered sets on sale. Much to my surprise I found a Bachmann Polar Express trai set on ebay. It was a used set which it was stated that it was only used for one year by the father who passed away and now the son was selling it. I never knew of Bachmann making a Polar Express train set, but it looks like they did. Now they didn't make a 2-8-0 Berkshire but it was based on the Bachman 4-6-0 and it had Polar express on the tender. But I said what the heck, I'll bid on it. Within 4 hours of the end the bidding started going crazy, my final bid where I stopped was at $426.00. No, I didn't misplace the decimal point. This is for a USED Bachmann train set. As I watched the close of the auction, the set finally sold for a whopping $735.00. This is the most I heard anyone buying a Bachman train set for, especially used. I did a quick google research on this set and found it's very extremely rare. I really wanted that set, but to me not worth that kinda money. Here is a few pictures for your enjoyment. Us poor people are left out in the cold again, anyone have any other leads on a set like this, please let me know, thanx.
It's not a Bachmann but it is G Scale as per the Forum you posted http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...=aps&hvadid=4306921817&ref=pd_sl_7nukbtn341_b I also found a Bachmann in HO scale http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Bachmann%20HO%20Scale%20Gordon%20Express%20Train%20Set:2003054528;_ylt=AgoYZ2PVp6nLwMLId8qu0X51o8Uu
$735? Small potatoes. A Z layout was bid up to $30,000 an didn't meet the reserve! What recession? Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44
I recently lost out on an HO Concor "12 Days of Christmas" car I hoped to win as a Christmas gift for my father. I knew the car was rare going in and all my research put the car's value around $55. The winning bid was nearly twice that at $102. There was a thread a while ago that someone noticed many hobby shops appeared to be doing fine despite the recession. The overall conclusion was that when money is tight, that new TV or computer gets put on hold, and instead people tend to turn to hobbies as their entertainment choice.
Don't take this the wrong way, but there is no way I would pay that kinda money for Z scale, something I personally need bi-focals to even see. For $30,000 I could have a real nice ride on train layout. I seen some starter kits priced out at $10,000 with track, locomotive, rail car and caboose
EMD, I wouldn't pay that much for a layout either. I simply gave this tidbit to show how silly this stuff can be. For your enjoyment, or not, a z photo. Cheers, Jim CCRR/Socalz44
Wow, that is a great picture, I would go blind building something like this. How did you get such a great shot of a Z scale with a camera like this? I am impressed with this picture with all of the details.
