If anyone has experience with the 0 Scale Red Caboose GP9 shell, I would be grateful for opinions regarding detail and overall quality. Thanks,
The RC GP-9 is an excellent model. The draw back is the fragile details. I would substitute brass for the smaller detail parts. As for powering them, there are several ways to do it and several levels of cost. If you are going to use it on a layout with free rolling equipment and short trains, the old Atlas F-9 makes a good donor unit for the drive. If you are going to run longer and heavier trains, then look into Central Locomotive Works frame and trucks with a Pittman motor. Also, Weaver trucks with the vertical motor and fly wheel will result in a nice running unit. If you are in the market for one, they are available. If you don't mind waiting, Atlas is supposed to release it down the road, with modifications to make it a more robust unit. It will have the dual vertical motor drive. Greg
I like mine very much. Good details, though as Greg said, it's best to replace the smaller details, as they are pretty fragile, the lift rings in particular. Mine has the stock running gear, and is a good puller, with nice coasting thanks to the dual flywheels. It's a great model....... Mark in Oregon
P&D Hobby Shop sells repower kits for the GP9 with either brass or plastic trucks. DesPlaines Hobby Shop sells a machined brass frame which adds weight and improves stiffness.
