Cool... so it's prototypical... but why is MILW slapping "GP20" on a GP9M? I'm guessing it isn't really supposed to designate the thing as a GP20, so it must mean something else... Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks for digging up the pic, BTW!
TD, I could make an uneducated guess and say that the MILW re-designated them GP20's after the rebuilds, but a true MILW fan could prolly tell you the real reason. No biggie on the pic, in fact head on over to FallenFlags.org to see more pixs of all the GP9M's the Milw had. If TG gets into weathering it will be good to have a idea of the weathering patterns for them. 2slim
TwinDad, From what I remember, when the MILW rebuilt its fleet, they were referred to as GP or SD-10s. The Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern's original fleet was made up of a large number of SD-10s they bought from the Soo Line a year after the takeover (1986). As to the "20" designation, I don't know. I'm guessing that when it was remanufactured/rebuilt, it was upped to 2000 HP, hense the GP20 designation. Just a hunch. But, you get a big "thumbs-up" on the MILW paint scheme (I'm a MILW man, as my hometown was on the Milwaukee).
