Does anyone know why these DTTX stack cars are RED, instead of the ubiquitous yellow? Did TXX obtain them from BNSF or someone? DTTX 725011 DTTX 725040 I saw one of these today in Emeryville, CA, today and it piqued my curiosity. I saw 725087, seems the entire 7250xx series is like this. Note that although they are numbered DTTX, the paint job lacks the usual large TTX logo on the center unit.
Someone cancelled an order for a fleet of 53' well cars, so TTX picked them up cheap. Maybe AOK from memory - I'll have to check my guides.
A model would be good conversation piece. Speaking of which, we need a model of a 53' well car in N scale!! Paging Alan Curtis...
Yeah, been considering doing a National Steel 53ft well car, 3-unit drawbarred set. As all three units are the same, I am not sure if they also run as stand-alone cars? Just have to find the time to fit it in
Took a little searching, but I found pictures for you: NSC 53' Standalone Here's another one In fact, looks like the entire 65xxxx series. Wow, 10,000 of them.
Thanks for the pics I will take a look at the info I have on the 3-unit sets and see if they are the same. Would be good to have a stand-alone and a 3-unit drawbarred set in one model
Alan, wait!! Why in the world would you want to make a cool model like this? I mean, why give my wife something nice to get me for Christmas - when am I going to get that pair of socks and tie?
Cool, so we can expect these out for Christmas, then. That's great news! (Other Trainboarders: this is from Spy School 101 - How to pry top secret new product release information from reticent manufacturers without them knowing it. )
No promises on timing William - (I did not say which Christmas) I have another project ongoing for release by year end
I totally agree. In fact, maybe the idea can even be taken one step further... What if the kit could be the articulated model, too? DTTX 721004 End DTTX 721004 Middle DTTX 721004 Other end You'd have to produce three or four additional parts, I think. 2 types of car ends for the articulated joint, plus the different etched metal parts walkways and the ladders. The point is, though, I think you could use the same car sides!! The modeler would have to chop a few scale inches off the ends, and the location of the jacking plate is a small problem, but there's probably a solution. You could do this with the NSC car or the Trinity 53' car, but not the Gunderson Maxi IV (which I hear Kato is going to produce anyway). Maybe the parts for the articulated version are an "add-on", more money for you, Alan. I promise I will buy all the types you make.
