I was going through an old album and found these, taken in 1955 with unknown equipment. If I owned a 35mm then it was my first, and probably marketed by Montgomery Ward. Wardflex? The train is led by E-8? can't read the numberboard. There is another B unit behind, with different "stuff" on top, a different type unit. Then a molasses or milk car and about 5 or 6 old heavyweight coaches. Taken east of Little Falls, NY. The second one is a wreck which occurred in Herkimer, NY in 1955. I think I was experimenting with Infrared film at the time, and yes, I hand tinted that photo with oils back in those days. Mercy.
I look at some of my very early photographs, taken with cheap cameras, and wish I had the cameras available today! But old pics do have a certain charm of their own, perhaps because they are blurry or dark Still well worth posting. Thanks.
In looking at some of my early photos (and they are interesting even if some are a "little" fuzzy) they bring back many memories of the time I shot them. Most of us started taking photos with less then the ideal camera and films. I can still see myself standing trackside, pressing the shutter release....ah yes...wait until the Hudson gets a little closer.. now...got it.... Ron
Hi Ron. BTW, do you have the latest "Classic Trains" mag? Take a look at pp50-51. Sure looks like the same place your Niagara shot was taken, just a little different location and angle.......
