I used the saturate with water and apply 50/50 glue mix to set my ballast...

will it work in reverse just to wet it and wait until it softens...or do I need to get the scraper out and get the replacement track piece ready ?

I'm seeing some areas that are not quite as smooth as they should be

That should do it. The wetter, the better for removing, too. Thing is, if it is only one piece of track, maybe it would be better to just get a new piece. Above all, patience!! Wet and go slowly. Have the scraper standing by if required.

its working, thanks - I was dreading the thought of forceably removing that section of track/ballast/bedding... it's all coming up pretty easily

note to self - don't leave this layout in the rain [IMG]

Mike - One way I have removed ballast and track sections is to place an old wash rag or towell over the section to be removed and soak the rag with very warm water. Let it steep for a few minutes and the ballast and track will come off very nicely. If you have used extruded foam as table top DO NOT pour boiling water on it the foam. Learned the hard way !!!
