I'm not a caboose expert. I can't tell most railroads' cabooses apart. But there are a number of oddities I know. I have a liking for MILW ribside bay windows, B&O wagontops, and L&N short bay windows. (Why is it always bay windows?) Anyway, how long did the ribsiders last? I read somewhere that at least some lasted into SOO days.
Yes. Some did make it to Soo Line. As happenings post-1980, 1985 are not interesting for me, I cannot add details. Most of the older series were gone by 1985. MRHA published a Ribside Caboose book. But for any still active, it does not go past 1985. Boxcab E50
There is also one in Elbe that is part of a Hotel that you can stay in actual cabooses. I think there is another one that a private owner has restored that is sitting at the shops in Mineral as well.
Ryan- Yes. There should be one there privately owned. Argh! I can't think of their family name right now. Someone sent me a picture of it at one time. Wherever that is filed.... mg: Ah. Now I remember. Unless ownership has been passed along, their name was Klontz. Boxcab E50
