Rented a car for the weekend to attend a race, but that got rained out. In order to get some use from said rental car,I decided to go railfanning yesterday, even though I did have to go into work at 10pm(still awake at 8am the morning after, need to sleep).

Headed over to the Main Line Sub,missing the R.J. Corman ingot train, known on CSX as K562. I don't think I missed too much,as I think I've caught the lead unit(RJC 3944) on previous occasions. The line was quiet riding from Elizabethtown,KY (MP 42) down south to Cave City,KY (MP 84). MoW was doing work at Bonnieville,KY (MP 63),but no trains,at least in the mid-late morning. After arriving in Cave City I heard that Q574 was coming north, but decided to make a quick trip over to Glasgow to locate a L&N combine that'd been sitting on an abandoned spur for 50+ years. I did find it,and also found J756,but the plant life has covered the old combine for the summer, and 756 was too far away to photograph.

I went back to Cave City, and caught Q574 coming through at a slow 30 mph with seven engines. Track speed is typically 50 mph:

After catching Q574,I went south, missing Q502 with an ex-Conrail unit trailing (CSX 7309) at Park City(MP 90). I went on into Bowling Green(MP 110),and decided to follow the old L&N Memphis Line out of Bowling Green for a short piece. I stopped at South Union,KY to get the caboose at the RJC Distribution Center:

I continued south, down to Franklin,KY,which put me back on the Main Line Sub(MP 134 to be exact). I headed back up to Bowling Green to make a stop at the depot/rail park. I managed to photograph one old caboose near the depot that sits at a brick making company:

After stopping at the depot and visiting the gift shop(did miss J756 heading south back to the yard in Bowling Green), I photographed the equipment at the Bowling Green depot.

Of course the train at Bowling Green wouldn't be complete without some "power".

    That "power" is L&N #796:

After leaving Bowling Green,I stopped in Smiths Grove(MP 90-something?) to photograph an ex ICG caboose on display there:

I continued north for almost another 40 miles before picking up activity on the scanner in the form of some southbounds. The first was the local, J765,at Sonora(MP 55)

    I continued north,and caught Q235 heading south at Gaithers,KY, Milepost 46:

Ballast train J030 tied down in Elizabethtown,a few miles north. I tried to get a photo of it,but lighting didn't work out. I did catch W001 however,a track geometry train:

I missed another southbound, Q211,due to having to head back home and into work. Within the next few days I'll be out looking for some more cabooses out in the western part of Kentucky, hopefully. I've got my lists and have a general idea of what I'm looking for.

Wow, those passenger cars don't even look the same from the other side! I wish the Little Woody was better taken care of. There is another one in pristine condition in Pewee Valley.

That rental worked out well. You've got a good batch of photos to prove it.
