The above book is available used, from ABE dealers (or presumably ALibris,AddAll, and other used book dealer/URls), for a saw-buck or so. It is definitive account of riding J and K-4 locos on head ends of 'Twentieth Century' and 'Broadway' respectively. Data: Howard G. Hill; RIDING THE LIMITED'S LOCOMOTIVES; Superior Publishing, Seattle, 1972. It is outstanding, and for the lay man; - a unique opportunity to access the "how it was" of steam express operation. I could, and have, expanded upon this, but this site ate effort earlier, so I don't have time to waste on another failed explanation of the merits of Hill's book. Good-Luck, and I hope this works- PJB
PJB, thanks for the info. How did this site eat your message? We don't like to hear things like that, and if it's something we can correct we will. What happened? Though I rode the NY Central as a youngster, we weren't affluent so didn't ride the Limiteds. I'm interested in the book.
