Here is a photo of a railroad right of way near Veedersburg, Indiana from the early part of the 20th century. It is not completely labeled, so do not know for sure if it is the P & E. Also, do not see too many "spotting features" that would help the old-timers to identify the exact location and/or railroad there. Not much ballast and fairly lightweight rail, so my best guess would be the P & E.

Except for a curve right in downtown Veedersburg, where you would expect some structures to be visible, the NYC right-of-way seems to have long tangent stretches on ether side of town.
Is there any chance this photo was taken somewhere along the Nickel Plate line that also passes through Veedersburg?

I suppose the rail dug into the ties pretty good without tie plates to distribute weight.

The thought was that is could have been the NKP. However, the NKP was a main line whereas the Big 4 was not. Therefore, it was probably the Big 4 line by reason of its smaller rail.
