Hi all, As the new RGM&HS President, I have some questions from members of this (Rio Grande) forum pertaining to the RGM&HS. *Are you a member or not? *If you are a member, why? *If you are not a member, why? *If you are a member, what would you like to see in the future for the Society? *If you are not a member, what would make you want to join? *Would you be willing to do an article for the Society's publication and what would be the subject? *Would you be willing to help the Society at a train show? Please feel free to add any other comments you may have. I am hoping this will help me get more people interested in the RGM&HS. I really appreciate your input. Thanks.
Congrats, Rod, that's quite a responsibility you have taken on. I am RGM&HS member #1801. I joined because the info contained in The Prospector has plenty of value for me. I use it for prototype reference, modeling ideas, history, and generally anything and everything 'Grande. My top 3 fav articles ever: FAST Times on the Rio Grande, The Railblazer, and Defy Gravity. I have enjoyed the 01400-series caboose, autorack and the 4-bay hoppers articles as well. What I would like to see? Modeling articles. I have seen several fantastic layouts build for the 'Grande that would make great magazine front page articles. (Bernard Kempinski, Mike Danneman, Steve (Riog66 here...)) I would LOVE to see an article on the layout that I thought the Denver N scale club was building in the Forney Museum, the Moffat Route, Denver-Moffat Tunnel . I hear it's simply enormous. I would also like to see more articles on D&RGW freight cars, specific passenger trains, early history (although some of this info would belong to D&SLHS). I would do an article on a model railroad, based on a specific locale on the 'Grande. I am building my layout to replicate the flavor of the areas at Crescent and Tunnels 18-19/25-26. I have no original research, but have a lot of 'Grande books. I have extensively railfanned the Moffat Route (UP era), but again, no D&RGW locomotives in those pictures, except a couple photos at Rocky in 2004. Should an article need some Tunnel District photos, I would be glad to help. Were I in the states, located in a general vicinity of a show venue, I would love to assist. I would love to attend a convention, too.
Prospector article How about writing an article about your layout for the Prospector? When you have the time of course!!! I would love to see something from Mike, Bernie, Steve, etc. However, Mike has been published so much and Bernie as well. Next time I talk with Mike I will see what I can do. There are others I may put the bite on as well. Maybe I can put something together soon. Thanks.
It wouldn't be a large article, and I would need to enlist some help photographing the areas of the layout that I intend to publish, but I think it wuld be a good Spring project after my college class is over in May. (16 week math class, eek!) I think it would motivate me to pushing certain portions to completion, and detailing/weathering the fleet.
