Way back in May of 1974 I took a trip on the Rio Grande Zephyr. The train left SLC going east on Tuesday. Friday and Sunday. I drove from Portland to SLC just to ride this train leaving SLC on Tuesday. The train was on time and was spotless and well maintained. The crew was fantastic. From the Conductor and Brakeman to the Diner and Lounge Car staff the RGZ was top drawer all the way. The photo was taken at Grand Junction Colorado where the train stopped for a crew change, fuel and water. The consist was the A-B-B set of F9's The combine, two Dome coaches(Silver Bronco & Silver Mustang) Diner (Silver Banquet) and Dome Obs Lounge(Silver Sky) The sleeping accomodations had been removed from the Dome Obs Lounge and the space converted to lounge space with swivel chairs and tables. I took the RGZ for the trip not to go anyplace. Glad I did it too. On the return trip the Silver Bronco was replaced by flat top coach Silver Aspen.
Not certain what happened. Since our software changeover, end of last June, we have seen an occasional anomaly.
